ONE DAY IN AMALFI COAST

WHERE

Amalfi Coast, Italy

WHEN

July 2018

The Amalfi Coast is located between Sorrento and Salerno, on the other side of Naples Bay and I gotta say I was already in love with Naples but the"costiera" is like paradise on earth.

If you are planning to spend summer in Europe, I truly recommend putting Amalfi coast on your list. Summer in Europe can (and most likely will) be quite expensive but there are ways to avoid going over your budget.

The "costiera amalfitana" route is about 40km of tight curves, a lot zigzagging and passages so narrow that might make your hands sweaty. It's also between the most beautiful green mountains and the bluest sea. It's insane how many beautiful views you have along the road, the houses look like they were carved in the rocks and though you might think that the people living there are crazy for living on the abyss, as soon as you lay your eyes on the sea you understand why.

Helpful tip: if you are like me and you are not used to a beach without sand, only small rocks, bring a pair of rubber flip flop (like Havaianas). It's quite difficult to get in and out (no sexy Baywatch slow-motion sort of things) of the water and because the rocks are dark they also burn.

So on July we decided to drive from Naples to Amalfi for one day. I do have to say that during July and August it gets quite crowded overthere, not only with tourists but also with locals and the prices of food are much more expensive compared to Naples and in case you are planning to bring a car, make sure your hotel has a parking, otherwise prepare to spend at least 5€/hour.

We drove until Vietri Sul Mare and from there we took the SS163 to Positano. We made a few stops along the way: we stayed for a few hours in Amalfi, where we took a walk around town and finish the tour with a swim, after that we decided to drive straight away to Positano, where we had a picnic by the beach and finished in Fiordo di Furore and head back home through Ravello (unfortunately we didn't stop there...)

If you have the change don't forget to try the granita di limone, which is basically ice, lemon and sugar and trust me on a hot summer afternoon that's everything you need.

Good to know: There's a lot of places worthy of a photos, unfortunately the road is so narrow that sometimes it's really dangerous to stop the car. Also if you are taking the bus it will tricky as well to photograph everywhere. So in my opinion (if you are luggage free!) is to rent a scooter and there are a ton of places along the coast (and out) where you can do it.

There's also a lot of places where you can rent a boat or do a tour of the coast by boat and that way you avoid fighting for a place in the "sand". But be aware that you can also find a lot of "traffic" in the water during the high season, so if you are not an expert sailor just rent a boat with one.

Safe travels :)
